Insurance leads: how to buy and close more policies
Insurance sells on trust and speed. Buying leads segmented by line and working them fast is the recipe to fill your book with policies.
Insurance is one of the sectors that fits lead buying best: a recurring product, constant demand and a customer who, when searching, usually compares several offers. For a broker, buying well-segmented leads is a direct route to more policies, as long as they're worked sensibly.
Segment by line
A life lead isn't the same as auto or health. Each line has its profile, urgency and script. Buying "insurance leads" generically is a mistake; define the line in your brief:
- Auto: high intent when the policy expires or they change car. Speed key.
- Health: a more considered decision, slightly longer cycle, trust-heavy.
- Home: often tied to a mortgage or move. A good acquisition moment.
- Life/funeral: sensitive, needs tact and a good script.
Timing rules: in insurance, capturing the lead right when their policy expires or their situation changes (car, house, child) multiplies closing. Lead freshness is gold.
Speed, again
The insurance customer asking for a quote is usually comparing right there. Response speed decides who gets the policy. An auto lead called in 5 minutes closes far more than one called the next day, when they already signed with someone else.
Comply with regulation
Insurance is a regulated, data-sensitive sector. Make sure your leads have valid consent and clear origin, as in GDPR and lead buying. A cheap lead without consent can cost far more than the policy you close.
A recurring book
The good thing about insurance is recurrence: a well-sold policy is income for years and a cross-sell opportunity. So the customer value is high and you can invest more per lead than you'd think.
In insurance you don't sell a policy: you open a years-long relationship. Each well-closed lead is recurring revenue, not a one-off sale.
